Birth of André Lecoq

André Lecoq was born on April 23, 1929 in Paris in the 15th arrondissement, to Breton parents from Carentoir.

1963

Genesis

In 1963, André Lecoq founded "Carrosserie Lecoq" and set up shop on rue Blanqui in Saint-Ouen, Seine-Saint-Denis, in his father's modest workshop. He thus became the first bodywork restorer in France.

End of 1960

Specialization

A specialist in polyester bodywork, he began his career working for Alpine, then for Deutsch-Bonnet. In the late 1960s, he moved to a larger workshop on Rue Charles-Schmidt, still in Saint-Ouen, to meet the growing demand for his services.

Early 1970s

Professionalization

In the early 1970s, Matra Automobiles entrusted him with all of its polyester bodywork repairs, before also referring its clients to him for restorations. It was during this period that Matra gave him its sign adorned with the "Gallic rooster," a symbol that would become the emblem of Carrosserie Lecoq.

During 1970

The Realization

In the 1970s, Adrien Maeght, a car collector and art gallery owner, commissioned the Lecoq workshop to restore a Volkswagen Schwimmwagen, then a Hispano-Suiza. Impressed, he entrusted the workshop with other vehicles from his collection. This marked the beginning of recognition for Lecoq coachbuilding, which became the preferred coachbuilder for Franco-Britannic. André Lecoq specializes in the restoration of pre-war luxury cars, such as Bugatti, Delage, Delahaye and Hispano-Suiza, building a reputation in the world of classic cars through concours d'élégance.
